Matrika Design Collaborative

A 2400 Sq Ft heritage project based in one of the metro cities in India. Himalayan Art Gallery is located in the heart of Mumbai and is well known for preserving the finest of the Tibetan Collection. The project challenge was to renovate the space considering factors like visitor circulation, ADA, preservation of the structure and construction of display cases. Every case has its unique way of opening and is designed by carefully selecting the source of light inside the display cases to avoid glares and reflection.

The display cases also had the provision for storing silica to prevent moisture with a mechanism to open the flap for change and maintenance. The art gallery walls were completely panelled with a minimum amount of drills using MS sections.

Key Responsibilities

I joined Matrika Design Collaborative as an Experience Designer and reported directly to the Principal Architect, Mr Abhishek Ray. I was assigned with the Himalayan Art Gallery, CSMVS project based in Mumbai and worked on researching the Tibetan Culture and the museum interior renovation guidelines. Soon I grew from developing initial CAD interior drawings to handling the design and execution of the project. I was involved in the communication with the client on weekly basis for the smooth functioning of the project. With the help of our office procurement team, I managed the budget of the project and looked through the quality of materials used in the renovation. Regular site visits involved tasks like measuring the designed display cases, selection of paint and other finishes by creating samples, communicating with the fabricator and strategizing ways to overcome fabrication challenges.
